As of October 23, 2025, PostNord will resume shipments containing items bound for the United States and Puerto Rico. PostNord is among the first international postal operators to relaunch the service for all customers, having successfully adopted a Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP) service to meet the new US customs requirements introduced in August.

Customers in Sweden and Denmark can once again send items to the United States and Puerto Rico via PostNord’s Postal Delivered Duties Paid (PDDP) service. Deliveries resume following changes to US customs regulations that took effect on August 29, when the de minimis exemption for low-value imports was revoked.

“We have worked intensively within this time frame to adapt our services to the new US requirements, knowing how much this service means for both individuals and businesses. After successfully testing the solution with a small group of customers, we’re now pleased to make it available to everyone sending items to the United States and Puerto Rico, especially ahead of peak season, with Black Friday and Christmas coming up,” says Björn Bergman, Head of Group Brand and Communication at PostNord.

The new regulations means that almost all items entering the United States and Puerto Rico are now subject to import duties, which must be paid before the shipment arrives. PostNord handles these duty outlays on behalf of the sender, ensuring timely payment and that recipients are not charged any additional fees on delivery. In addition, US customs authorities now require more detailed information from the sender. This means that complete and accurate electronic customs data must be provided at the time of booking. This includes item descriptions, declared value, country of origin, and other key shipment details.

To meet these new requirements, PostNord has updated its online services for direct-paying customers. They can now enter customs information, view automatically calculated duties, and pay all applicable fees directly at checkout. Invoice customers will continue to manage their shipments via PostNord’s business systems and be billed after dispatch, based on the final amount of duty paid to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

With these changes, PostNord can continue to offer compliant, reliable, and efficient delivery services to the United States and Puerto Rico, in line with the new customs regulations introduced after the revocation of the de minimis exemption. Under the new rules, duties now apply to items valued under USD 800, while gifts between private individuals valued under USD 100, as well as letters and personal correspondence, remain exempt and do not require a customs declaration.

Fact box: Revocation of the de minimis rule

  • The US de minimis exemption, which previously permitted duty-free imports of items valued under USD 800, was revoked on August 29, 2025.
  • Due to the new requirements, PostNord temporarily paused some deliveries to the United States and Puerto Rico on August 23 and will resume them on October 23, 2025.
  • The change means that the items are now subject to customs duties and stricter customs data requirements.
