Celebrating start of construction new PostNL parcels sorting and distribution centres

PostNL has celebrated the start of the building of two new parcels sorting and distribution centres together with local authorities in Venlo and Duivendrecht.

In 2018, PostNL will start operating a total of three new parcels sorting centres. The centres, located in Apeldoorn, Duivendrecht and Venlo, will make a huge contribution to increasing the capacity for the distribution and collection of parcels. This allows PostNL to respond to the huge growth being seen on the e-commerce market. PostNL will begin operating in the three new centres in the second half of this year.

Liesbeth Kaashoek, Director Parcels and Logistics at PostNL, says: 'To strengthen our position as a leading logistics e-commerce company in the Benelux, we are currently investing more in our parcels infrastructure. These parcels sorting centres will help us respond even better to the huge growth we are seeing in e-commerce. We hope to stimulate the development of the regional e-commerce sector by servicing them even better. Both Venlo and Apeldoorn will also play an important role in improving the connection of our German customers with our network.'

Most sustainable logistics buildings

It is PostNL's ambition to achieve a BREEAM certification rating of 'Outstanding' for the three new parcels sorting centres. With this goal in mind, the measures being taken by PostNL include investment in the most sustainable materials, the installation of solar panels, waste heat recovery systems and gas-free building. Each building will be heated and cooled using heat pumps, and powered using sustainable energy. This will make them among the most sustainable logistics buildings in the Netherlands.
