Turkish Post and Posti our Top Winners of the 2017 Most Beautiful EUROPA Stamp Competitions

PostEurop is proud to announce Turkish Post PTT (Turkey - Gold), Poczta Polska (Poland - Silver) and Posta Moldovei (Moldavia - Bronze) as the winners of the 2017 EUROPA Stamps online competition through public voting.

For the EUROPA Stamps Jury prize competition, our group of Philatelic experts declared Posti Group (Finland - Gold), Poste Italiane & Aland Post (Italy & Aland - Silver) and Liechtensteinische Post (Liechtenstein - Bronze) as winners.

In this year’s edition, a record number of 58 entries were submitted based on the theme "Castles".

The results of this year’s online EUROPA Stamp competition were disclosed during the PostEurop Plenary Assembly in Bucharest, in a special gala dinner, where Turkish PTT (Turkey), Poczta Polska (Poland) and Posta Moldovei (Moldavia) were revealed as the emerging top three winners, respectively.

"I am very proud to see a record number of entries with such beautiful designs! These incredible stamps display such beautiful landmarks of our diverse culture, which is spread throughout Europe. I am also happy to see that the designers used their creativity to achieve many different interpretations of this theme, also by using different production techniques, including engravings, varnishing and photography" exclaimed Anita Häggblom, Chair of the PostEurop Stamps and Philately working group from Posten Ǻland.

EUROPA Jury Competition

As in the past, a jury composed of seven philatelic experts, scrutinized all the displayed entries based on the theme “Castles”. The jurors casted their closed ballots and two rounds of voting were necessary for the group of experts co-chaired by Dr. Botond Szebeny and Dr. Guy Coutant to proudly announce Posti Group (Finland) as the winner of the 2017 EUROPA stamp Jury Prize.

This year’s Jury composed of the following group of experts:

  • Dr Botond Szebeny, Secretary General PostEurop (Co-Chair)
  • Dr Guy Coutant, Philatelist (Co-Chair)
  • Mr Arie Piet, Former CEO Joh Enschedé Stamp Printing, Director Stamp Printing National Bank Belgium
  • Mrs Andrée Trommer, Secretary General FIP (Fédération Internationale de Philatélie)
  • Mr Eric Contesse, Philatelist
  • Mr Olaf Neumann, Stamp designer
  • Mr Stefan Klein, Stamp designer

“It is truly remarkable to see that we have such good entries representing so well these magnificent symbols of our European History and Heritage. This initiative has proven itself as a valuable exercise and we couldn’t be more grateful for the time and effort that each jury member has taken to participate in the judging process. Beyond that it was also good to meet after a one year break due to the Joint motif “Think Green” marking the EUROPA Stamps 60th anniversary” commented Botond Szebeny, PostEurop Secretary General.

The awards for the 2017 Jury competition were delivered to the postal philatelic community on Saturday, 16 September 2017, at the distinguished Brussels Town Hall, during the Belgian Philatelic Grand Prix ceremony, where philatelists and dignitaries from all over Europe gathered.

This year, for the first time ever in the history of the competition, there was a tie for the second-place, which went both to Poste Italiane (Italy) and Aland Post (Aland), thus having Liechtensteinische Post (Liechtenstein) as the third-place winner of the EUROPA Jury prize competition.

Congratulations to all the winners.
