Ten of the new electric vans are expected to be on the road within the next couple of weeks once the final installation work has been complete. A number of dedicated charging points have been installed at Envoy House by Guernsey Electricity.
Boley added " We expect to get approximately 85 miles per charge at a cost of about 2p per mile, compared to 21p per mile in a diesel equivalent so this is a sound financial investment with a conservative payback of around 5 years."
Vince Smith, Head of Commercial said "Guernsey Electricity is delighted to be asked by Guernsey Post to work alongside them with this project. We supplied and installed eight charger posts, which are able to charge up to 16 vehicles at the same time. We look forward to seeing the vans out and about delivering post around the island and ultimately contributing to a greener Guernsey."
Older vehicles in Guernsey Post's fleet of 109 will be replaced with electric vehicles as they come to the end of their life.
