According to Martin Luts, Chief Operational Officer of Omniva, they have already noticed that the parcel volumes are corresponding to those usual for the Christmas season. “As expected, the parcel volumes have already multiplied compared to the usual. Since the parcel machines are not made of rubber, we are asking all our customers to pick up their parcels from the parcel machines as soon as possible, so there would be room for the parcels of others as well,” added Luts.

Regardless of the fact that Omniva has consistently increased the size of their most popular parcel machines and expanded their network in general, there is still not enough room in the machines to fit all the parcels coming in before Christmas, says Luts. Therefore, there are Omniva couriers waiting next to the parcel machines that are the most full of parcels in order to hand the parcels over to their receivers on-site.

“As the number or parcels is significantly larger than usual, we cannot guarantee that each and every package will be in its respective parcel machine exactly at 10 a.m. in the morning. However, we can say with a hundred percent certainty that the client will get their parcel within that day,” explained Luts. “In such cases, we sometimes use the help of our couriers.”

In December, the parcel volumes usually increase manifold compared to the usual. In addition to that, every year, more and more parcels are sent out during the pre-Christmas period. For example, compared to the year before the last, the parcel volumes in the beginning of December increased 40% in Estonia, 63% in Lithuania, and even 112% in Latvia. The volumes are very likely to increase this year as well.

The package volumes usually start to show an increase already as early as in October and, after that, continue to increase until Christmas. The height of the volumes usually occurs sometime during the last two weeks before Christmas when Omniva delivers tens of thousands of parcels and about hundred thousand letters a day. During this period, Omniva expects its customers to be understanding and pick up their parcels from the parcel machines as soon as possible. To facilitate, the logistics company is also giving out prizes to the people fastest to pick up their parcels.
