According to the Head of Parcels Business at Omniva, Sten Argos, China, the United Kingdom, the USA, and Germany continue to be the most popular countries for online shopping. Specifically the latter has shown a significant upward trend this year.
Comparing the first half of 2016 with the same period of the last year, Germany has seen the most substantial increase regarding ordered shipments with an increase of 32% in trade volumes. This is greatly because next to the Amazon of the United Kingdom and USA, shopping at Amazon.de has grown. Shopping at the eBay environments of different countries continues to be popular. Other popular online stores worth mentioning include asos.com, sportsdirect.com, and houseoffraser.com.
“Chinese e-stores, with AliExpress in the lead, are without a doubt still attractive due to their incredibly cheap products and free shipping. However, the number of conscious shoppers who want to be sure about the quality of the products ordered from foreign online stores is on the rise,” said Argos about the new trends.
In addition, more and more shoppers are looking for – and finding– online stores selling products aimed at specific hobbies or products with a certain preferred label. “It is quite common that people order products and brands not yet available in Estonia,” said Argos. “Some of the most popular examples include different books, electronic components, cosmetic and clothing brands, children’s clothes, as well as all kinds of fan merchandise, from football shirts to comic book franchises that will never reach Estonian shelves,” he added.
Currently, out of all foreign online stores, Omniva parcel machines only accept shipments from AliExpress. In the near future, this will also be an option for other foreign e-stores in order to allow clients to receive their parcels via the channel of their choice.
