Royal Mail named in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women

Royal Mail is one of The Times' Top 50 Employers for Women for third year in a row, a sign of the company’s commitment to gender equality

  1. In addition, Royal Mail won the Talent Pipeline Award, at the BITC workplace gender equality awards. The award recognises a programme or intervention that focuses on creating, increasing and/or maintaining female talent pipelines
  2. This year’s event celebrated 25 years of Business in the Community’s gender equality campaign and marked the launch of the ‘Same but Different’ photography project, celebrating women’s unique identities.

Royal Mail has been awarded a place in The Times Top 50 Employers for Women for the third consecutive year. In addition Royal Mail has been recognised for its leadership in creating equal and inclusive workplaces for women at the Business in the Community Workplace Gender Equality Awards, sponsored by Nationwide Building Society. The awards ceremony, hosted by Sky News presenter Dharshini David, took place last night (20th April 2016) at the Hilton Park Lane during Business in the Community’s Responsible Business Week.

Royal Mail won the Talent Pipeline Award, sponsored by Nationwide. The award recognises a programme or intervention that focuses on creating, increasing and/or maintaining female talent pipelines. It can relate to pipelines at any level and can include attraction, recruitment and retention and external partnerships.

Chief Operations Officer Sue Whalley said “Royal Mail is proud to have its work on equality recognised by The Times Top 50 Employers for Women and by Business in the Community. We strive to attract people who reflect the communities and customers we serve. In addition, being awarded the Talent Pipeline Award by Business in the Community shows the progress we have made to create an environment that is more inclusive and welcoming for everyone.”

Kathryn Nawrockyi, Gender Equality Director, Business in the Community, said: “Congratulations to Royal Mail. They have demonstrated that working to achieve equality is about more than just creating ‘opportunities for women’ – it’s about creating workplaces and ways of working that work for both women and men. We are challenging employers to rethink traditional approaches to creating an equal division of work and power between women and men, and I hope that Royal Mail will inspire other employers to be bold and innovative.”

Helena Morrissey CBE, CEO, Newton Investment Management and Chair, Business in the Community Leadership Team on Gender Equality, said: “Royal Mail is creating a culture characterised by true equality.
