bpost is rewarded for its sustainable development initiatives

bpost is now included in the “Ethibel Sustainability Index Excellence Europe”.

bpost has been ranked world’s best in environmental management by the International Post Corporation (IPC) for the third consecutive year.

bpost has been selected to integrate the Ethibel Sustainability Index Excellence Europe for its performance in its corporate social responsibility programme. Forum ETHIBEL, which supervises this index, is an independent ratings agency promoting socially responsible investment. Investors wishing to invest in a socially responsible company can base their decision on this index.

Furthermore, bpost has just confirmed its top place in IPC’s annual ranking of its members’ environmental management performance in 2015. The IPC unites the postal companies of Europe, North and South America, Africa and Asia-Pacific. Together, these operators represent over 80% of global postal volumes.

These two awards confirm that the initiatives taken by bpost for over the past several years to reduce the impact of its activities on the environment are bearing fruits.

During the period 2007-2014, the CO2 emissions of its activities fell by 35%. Encouraged by these impressive results, bpost is committed to continuing its efforts to use energy in a rational way and to minimise its environmental impact. New goals have been set for 2020 to reduce carbon emissions by 45% compared to the 2007 figure. CO2logic certifies that bpost’s level of ambition exceeds expectations in its sector in order to limit the temperature rise to under 2°C.

Finally, on 11 September Koen Van Gerven, CEO of bpost, co-signed, together with 76 companies, NGOs and universities, a letter of commitment in which they ask through the COP21 for an agreement to be made and actions to be undertaken against global warming. Through this letter, they confirm their commitment to making the necessary efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 70% between now and 2050.

Koen Van Gerven, says: “An agreement during the COP21 is essential to accelerate the sustainable transition. On our side, bpost is pursuing its target to reduce its CO2 emissions in the coming years, thus contributing to maintaining the global temperature rise at less than 2 degrees Celsius. ”
