Online commerce in China increases the flow of postal items in Lithuania

More than a half of incoming postal items in Lithuania is received from China and in total it made 54 percent of the receiving postal items flow in the first-quarter this year, states Lithuania Post (AB Lietuvos paštas).

“The flow of received postal items from China is steadily increasing quarter on quarter. There are several causes to explain these numbers. Firstly, Lithuanians are more often ordering from online stores in China, in addition to this, Lithuania post is closely cooperating with foreign partners,” – says Rasa Radzevičienė, director of Lithuania Post’s Office of postal operations.

Last year received postal items from China represented 47 percent of all international postal dispatches.

In the first quarter of the year more than 14 million various postal items have been sent or received through Lithuania Post Office. It shows 16,3 percent grow compared to the same period last year. These results were impacted by the cooperation of Lithuania Post and Chinese logistics company, which distributes postal items to the countries of European Union, Russia and Belorussia through Lithuania Post.

The list of top five countries has not changed. As last year during the first quarter this year postal items were received mainly from China, Poland, Germany, USA and Latvia. Lithuanians are mostly sending postal deliveries to Great Britain, Germany, USA, Russia and Latvia.

Although this top five list has remained the same for the several years, some postal items from exotic countries as Cuba, Nigeria, Peru, Iran, Ecuador, Qatar, Oman, Seychelles, Tanzania, Myanmar, Cayman Islands or the French overseas region of Mayotte and others has been delivered to Lithuania last year.
