La Poste Group is the winner of the 2022 PostEurop Innovation Award

PostEurop is proud to announce La Poste Group is the winner of the 2022 Innovation Award.

The announcement and award ceremony took place during the PostEurop General Assembly at Dublin, Ireland, on the 5th of October 2022.

In a context of an ever-changing world, postal operators play a critical role as communications/logistic/delivery hubs that keep people and organisations in contact with each other and economies rolling on. Innovation in these companies will be the key to tackle crucial topics such as climate change, digital disruption, diversity & inclusion, future of work, business resilience and future of supply chains. Therefore, celebration of innovation efforts is also a way to share with postal community the best achievements we are capable of.

The Innovation Award aims to foster a stronger affinity and engagement in innovation concepts, ideas and findings among our Members in a consistent and continuous manner. Through the Award, PostEurop would like to recognise Members’ accomplishments in this area. It Is organized by PostEurop's Innovation Forum Team, composed by:

Felix Blaich (Deutsche Post) – Chair of the Operational Activities Circle

  • Maire Lodi (PostEurop) – Operations Manager
  • Carlos Bhatt (CTT Portugal Post) – Chairman of the Innovation Forum
  • Sophie Desier Biehler (La Poste Group) – Vice-Chairman of the Innovation Forum
  • Thierry Golliard (Swiss Post) – Vice-Chairman of the Innovation Forum

In this sixth edition of the award, PostEurop received 10 innovative applications from Members:

An Post (Ireland), BPost NV (Belgium), CTT Portugal Post (Portugal), Deutsche Post DHL Group (Germany), La Poste Group (France), MaltaPost (Malta), Österreichische Post AG (Austria), PostNL (Netherlands), S.E. Correos y Telégrafos S.A. (Spain) and Swiss Post (Switzerland).

The jury members analysed each application carefully and thoroughly before reaching the decision on the sixth edition winner. This year, the winner was La Poste Group.

Since the implementation of European customs regulations in 2021 and due to huge imported volumes, postal operators have been facing many operational and IT difficulties to clear goods upon importation within their country.

La Poste Group's Application "SIMBA - simplify importation mechanism via blockchain technology" aims at solving cross-border issues for La Poste and for French customs.

The SIMBA tool aims at:

  • Securing the collection of customs duties and VAT amounts.
  • Assisting the French customs in the fight against illicit traffic and tax evasion.
  • Developing a one-stop shop for collecting supporting documents (invoices, licenses, authorizations)
  • Making La Poste Groupe an European customs clearance hub for cross-border flows.

"I feel so proud to win this PostEurop distinction and I realize since this award how far the postal business future is deeply linked to the innovation capacities of postal operators. Our ambition is to provide to the postal community a friendly-user tool to tackle crossborder challenges.", statement from Christophe Pereira, the international supply chain and customs manager from La Poste Group.

The winner was awarded a uniquely designed 3D trophy specially made for the PostEurop Innovation Award.
