Dubbed the AEX ESG Index, it showcases the 25 most sustainable AEX and midcap companies listed on the Amsterdam market. The AEX ESG Index was launched by Euronext and its ESG ratings are done by Morningstar Sustainalytics, a leading global ESG and corporate governance research, ratings and analytics firm.

Herna Verhagen, PostNL’s CEO, said: “We’re incredibly proud that we’ve been included in this new index. PostNL wants to and is able to be a major contributor to making the logistics industry more sustainable, which is why we’re making great strides in getting our activities in sustainable shape. We’ve already achieved a lot: at this point, we have over 2,200 electric vehicles – large and small – doing our deliveries; 55% of our kilometres with large vehicles we run on renewable fuels like HVO100, which emits 90% less carbon; and we’re looking to be a great employer or client for all who work with or for us.”

Recognition for sustainable efforts in 2021

In 2021 PostNL had also received recognition for its sustainable efforts, once again ending up among the leaders in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and receiving as one of the six Dutch companies an “A” rating on the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project) benchmark, the highest possible score for companies and clear testimony to the progress it’s making. In addition, PostNL was recently awarded PSO certification and immediately came in on level 2 of the PSO social entrepreneurship performance ladder. PSO is TNO’s science-based certification that measures and discloses social entrepreneurship achievement levels.

Low-carbon logistics

In 2021 PostNL saw great momentum in its transition to low-carbon logistics, reducing its carbon emissions per kilometre by 18% compared with 2020 by electrifying its fleet and scaling up consumption of fossil-free fuels such as HVO100.
