Posti will speed up parcel deliveries during the Christmas period with pickup points and weekend deliveries

Last year, Posti delivered a record-high number of parcels during the Christmas period: more than 1.3 million parcels per week.

Almost half of festive shoppers do most or all of their shopping online

Almost half of festive shoppers do most or all of their shopping online, with UK festive online shopping spend up 11 per cent YOY, according to research commissioned by Royal Mail.

This year, Posti will also prepare for a few busy weeks of delivering parcels, starting on Black Friday (November 29).  The peak season for parcel deliveries starts at the end of November and continues until Christmas Eve.

Posti is preparing for increased delivery volumes by adding new Posti Parcel Lockers and creating temporary pickup points for the Christmas season. Throughout the season, Posti will also be delivering items for pickup on weekends. The seven-day parcel delivery covers more than 40% of Finns.

For this Christmas period, Posti will expand its pickup point network with around 100 temporary pickup points to ensure smooth parcel traffic during the online shopping peak season.  These temporary pickup points will be located close to other Posti services, including service providers’ facilities and shopping center facilities leased by Posti. Items that cannot be processed at the permanent regional service points due to the high volume of deliveries will be directed to these temporary pickup points.

Posti has established temporary pickup points for several years in order to provide the best possible customer service. The temporary pickup points serve customers starting from Wednesday, November 27.

As in previous years, there are seasonal employees working at the temporary pickup points this year. Each year, Posti hires approximately 3,000 seasonal employees for the peak season in the run-up to Christmas.

Posti has invested in Posti Parcel Lockers

Currently, Posti has nearly 1,700 parcel lockers around Finland. Posti has made significant investments in these, and their number has increased by 70% during the year. Around this time last year, Posti opened its 1000th Posti Parcel Locker on November 12.  With growing online sales, Posti Parcel Lockers have become a popular method of receiving online store deliveries as pickup only takes a few seconds.

According to the 2019 online shopping survey conducted by Kantar TNS on behalf of Posti, online campaigns attract consumers. More than one fifth of online shoppers have made purchases during Black Friday (23%) and generally during Christmas sales (22%). The e-commerce season continues until the start of the year, with online shoppers taking advantage of January deals online.

Customers can use the map search at posti.fi/kartta to find a Posti Parcel Locker or other service point at a location convenient for them. The OmaPosti mobile application and Posti web services can also be used to direct and track deliveries.
