A major contract renewal: Transport of Olvi’s beverage products to be carried out by Posti

Olvi and Posti’s cooperation dates back to the early 2000s.

The latest contract renewal means that Posti will be handling the terminal transport of the brewery products produced by Olvi’s Iisalmi factory for several years, starting from 2019. The service agreement covers all of Finland.

Posti will transport Olvi’s brewery products from Iisalmi to anywhere in Finland. The service consists of brewery product transport between terminals. In addition to brewery products, Posti will transport pallets, containers and honeycomb sheets needed for delivering Olvi products as return freight.

“The beverage industry is characterized by significant variation in delivery volumes depending on the season. Having Posti as a partner ensures an efficient delivery chain that covers the entire country and can adapt to the changes in Olvi’s delivery volumes,” says Timo Miettinen, Logistics Manager at Olvi.

Brewery products are transported every weekday using several road trains. During peak season, over 70 truckloads of beer, cider, soft drinks and mineral water per day are shipped out from Iisalmi.

“A contract renewal is the surest sign of the service being high-quality and suitable for our customer. Order and transport schedules are extremely tight in food logistics, which means that the work requires a lot from the logistics partner. Most of Olvi’s products are transported from Iisalmi to Southern Finland, which brings a healthy increase to our transport fleet’s fill rate. Usually, products and goods are transported from Southern Finland to Northern Finland,” says Jani Lindström, Director, Grocery Logistics Services at Posti.

Lindström states that Posti’s strategy aims at Posti being an important food logistics operator in Finland, and one that continuously develops food logistics services together with customers. In Seinäjoki, for example, Posti has new temperature-controlled warehouse and terminal facilities that have been designed to meet the needs of food logistics customers. Through the Seinäjoki facilities, Posti is able to serve the food industry, consumer goods retailers and the Foodservice sector in all of Finland.

Through a number of acquisitions in recent years, Posti has grown into an important food logistics partner. The company has also invested in temperature-controlled transport fleet vehicles.
