Guernsey Post introduces 18 electric vans to its postal delivery fleet

Boley Smillie, Chief Executive of Guernsey Post said "We are keen to reduce the impact on the environment that our delivery network but at the same time we also need vehicles that have enough load capacity to deliver efficiently the ever increasing parcel volumes. The Nissan eNV200 does just that and its size is suitable to our island roads".

Ten of the new electric vans are expected to be on the road within the next couple of weeks once the final installation work has been complete. A number of dedicated charging points have been installed at Envoy House by Guernsey Electricity.

Boley added " We expect to get approximately 85 miles per charge at a cost of about 2p per mile, compared to 21p per mile in a diesel equivalent so this is a sound financial investment with a conservative payback of around 5 years."

Vince Smith, Head of Commercial said "Guernsey Electricity is delighted to be asked by Guernsey Post to work alongside them with this project. We supplied and installed eight charger posts, which are able to charge up to 16 vehicles at the same time. We look forward to seeing the vans out and about delivering post around the island and ultimately contributing to a greener Guernsey."

Older vehicles in Guernsey Post's fleet of 109 will be replaced with electric vehicles as they come to the end of their life.
