bpost launches bringr, a collaborative platform app for transporting goods

Today bpost launches bringr, an innovative collaborative platform app allowing smartphone users to find a driver for delivering goods.

The parcels market is continuously evolving and so are the needs of our customers. Their requirements are increasingly specific and they ask for very flexible but simple, tailor-made solutions.

On the parcels market segment bpost already offers flexible solutions through its existing network and services (door-to-door next-day delivery, pick-up in post offices, post points or parcel lockers, sustainable urban distribution through Citydepot).

With bringr, a scoop in Belgium, bpost complements its existing product range with a service that enables users to find a driver to pick up goods at point A and deliver them to point B (for instance the transport of a microwave oven you just bought via a second-hand website, the forgotten keys that you need back, an armchair just too big for your car, etc.)

bpost’s role is to facilitate this collaborative platform. People who offer their services through the app have no contractual links with bpost but should respect the applicable regulatory framework.

How does bringr work?

Download the app (available for iOS and Android) and register in order to send goods.

You can also register as driver via the app.

  1. Enter the details of what you wish to send, when and to which address. The app will search for available drivers in your area.
  2. The driver will pick up your package and drive to the delivery address. The sender and the receiver can follow the driver’s progress in real time through the app.
  3. The sender will automatically be notified of the delivery through the app and can rate the driver.

The price is based on various parameters, such as weight and distance; payment is made electronically through the app.

bpost has chosen the Antwerp region where pick-up locations originate for the pilot project. Pick-ups outside of the Antwerp region are not possible. The delivery address can be anywhere in Belgium.

If this pilot project is successful, the service will be rolled out to additional cities.

Koen Van Gerven, bpost’s CEO, said: “The digitization of our world represents threats but offers opportunities at the same time. We don’t have to fear digitization but embrace it and use it to make bpost a stronger company. This is what innovation is about and bringr is a good example of this.”
