Only 4 European postal operators: Ceska Posta, Magyar Posta, PostNL and Posta Slovenije, has received this customs certification so far.

By obtaining the AEO status, the Posta Romana becomes a "trusted partner" of the customs authority. In addition, to being a reliable partner, an authorised AEO economic operator is entitled to benefit from certain advantages and customs simplifications in order to streamline and optimise customs and logistics operations.  This also reduces internal costs.

"In order to obtain this certification, the company underwent an extensive and lengthy audit process, during which it proved that it meets well-defined criteria at Community level for compliance with customs regulations, as well as adequate accounting standards and financial solvency.  Posta Romana has proved, once again, that it is a reliable partner both for the state authorities and for the citizens of this country", said Horia Grigorescu, General Director of the Romanian Post.

The actions undertaken by the Posta Romana played an important role in modernising the customs operations carried out by the company and strengthening the partnership with the customs authorities, a partnership based on the observing the principles of mutual transparency, fairness and responsibility. One of these key-actions is the implementation of the Customs Declaration System (CDS) developed by the Universal Postal Union (UPU), jointly with the World Customs Organization (WCO).  The system allows the electronic exchange of advance customs data with other designated postal operators; another key-action is the protocol concluded between Posta Romana and the Customs authority, a protocol meant to prevent infringements of customs legislation. These are just some of the actions taken by the company to obtain the AEO status.

Based on its existing partnership with the customs authorities, Posta Romana will also consider using the benefits offered by the AEO authorisation to drive customs operations efficiency for the entire country. AEO status is a quality mark recognised in all EU Member States and non-EU countries (China, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, USA) in partnership with the EU. Starting from 21 July 2020, Posta Romana joined Magyar Posta (Hungary), PostNL (Netherlands), Czech Post (Czech Republic) and Posta Slovenije (Slovenia) within the European Union that benefit from such the customs certification.
