Omniva will establish a green energy solution for the new logistics centre

The modern energy solution promises to cover approximately half of the building’s energy need with renewable energy.

Omniva plans to install solar panels in the size of one and a half football fields on the roof of the logistics centre.

“A significant criterion in designing and building the new logistics centre was its environmental friendliness and energy efficiency. We are pleased to announce that our new logistics centre will largely operate on renewable energy,” said Joona Saluveer, Chairman of the Management Board of Omniva.

In the public procurement announced the last week, the company looks for tenderers that would equip the 11,000-square-metre roof of the new logistics centre with solar panels. The interested tenderer would have to possess at least a 3-year experience in the sale and installation experience of solar panel products and services and previous experience in completing other similar projects.

The planned logistics centre, which will cover an area of approximately 13,000 square metres and will be the most modern logistics centre in the Baltic region, will handle all parcels and letters sent to, within, and from Estonia. The construction of the new logistics centre entails the largest investment Omniva has ever made, its cost with the sorting technology amounting to 17.2 million euros. The new centre is planned to be finished in November 2018.

Last year, Omniva started testing electric mopeds for mail carriers as a green project. In the near future, the company plans to pilot electric vans suitable for last-mile deliveries. In addition, the company trains its employees in using sustainable driving methods and organises an annual eco-driving competition.

The main area of activity of Omniva is the provision of postal, logistics, and information logistics services, as well as handling e-invoices. In addition to the parent company AS Eesti Post, the group comprises subsidiaries and related companies. The principal activity of SIA Omniva and UAB Omniva LT is the provision of parcel machine and courier services on the Latvian and Lithuanian markets. AS Maksekeskus operates in the provision of payment solutions to e-commerce companies in the Baltic region. Post11 provides online traders with holistic international logistics solutions for delivering goods across the world.
