PostNL delivers 5.5 million parcels in week before Christmas

The Hague, 23 December 2016 – A PostNL delivery worker came to the door at almost 4 million addresses in the Netherlands in the week before Christmas.

A new weekly record has been achieved with the delivery of 5.5 million parcels. Many people have also enjoyed the convenience of ordering their shopping and meal boxes online for the holidays.

During these days, the work was carried out with 600 more parcel delivery workers on the road than on normal delivery days. The most parcels per resident were delivered in Boxmeer, Duiven and Waddinxveen. For the holidays, PostNL delivered shopping and meal boxes (including Christmas boxes) throughout the Netherlands for 29 different suppliers.

‘Our sorting centres have been operating at full capacity this week. At the busiest moments we processed as many as 40 parcels per second,’ says Gerrit Mastenbroek, PostNL Parcels Director. ‘Since the arrival of Sinterklaas on 12 November, up until Christmas, we’ve delivered 23.8 million parcels. Lined up together, they would more than cover the distance from Amsterdam to the North Pole.’
