Amazon joins the UK’s largest ‘click and collect’ network

Amazon is offering its online customers access to Royal Mail’s Local Collect ‘click and collect’ network – the largest in the UK.

The service enables shoppers to choose for parcels to be delivered to around 10,500 Post Office branches, providing greater control over the delivery of their items. Post Office branches are ideal locations to provide convenient, secure parcel collection facilities across the UK.

99 per cent of the population lives within three miles of a Post Office branch. The initiative will mean that Amazon’s customers can order items for collection at their local branch.

Providing more options for shoppers to receive online orders

Local Collect is one of a range of initiatives by Royal Mail to improve flexibility and provide more options for people to receive items they have ordered online.

Royal Mail Group’s express parcels business, Parcelforce Worldwide, started to deliver seven days a week at the end of June when it launched Sunday deliveries. Separately, Royal Mail is piloting Sunday afternoon opening at around 100 delivery offices across the UK.

This is designed to make it easier for customers not at home during the day to get their parcels. At the same time, Royal Mail is also piloting Sunday deliveries to addresses within the M25 motorway.
