Poste Italiane: Revenue up Operating profit and net profit for the period down

Group confirms leadership in savings products and insurance premiums. Postal services business hit by cost of Universal Service provision as structural reduction in volumes continues. New platforms for digital services for customers.

Rome, 16 September 2014 – Today’s meeting of Poste Italiane’s Board of Directors, chaired by Luisa Todini, has approved the Interim Report for the six months ended 30 June 2014.

Total revenue for the first half, including insurance premium revenue, totals €15 billion, marking an improvement on the first half of 2013 (€13 billion) and after benefitting from the strong performance of insurance services.

Operating profit amounts to €506 million (€661 million in 2013).

In the Logistics and parcels business, Express Courier services achieved positive results thanks to growth in e-Commerce, where Poste Italiane offers customers a widespread logistics network combined with secure payment systems.

This positive performance has only partially offset the progressive reduction of postal services, which continue to reflect the fall in traditional mail and tough price competition in profitable segments of the market.
