European Affairs

PostEurop’s activities in the European regulatory field focus on clarifying views, creating common positions and lobbying European institutions to achieve a future postal market conducive to a sustainable provision of postal services for all customers and stakeholders.

The European Affairs Committee

The mission of this committee is to contribute to shaping the European regulatory postal environment according to the industry and Members’ interests. The committee follows the EU Institutions’ activities, coordinating and presenting the views of PostEurop Members on European policies and initiatives impacting postal activities.

The European Affairs Committee adds value to PostEurop in several ways:

  • By providing alignment of stakeholders on PostEurop’s common positions.
  • By allowing control over regulatory framework and strong added value through cooperative impact of 48 vs. single postal operators.
  • By exchange of expertise and insights among experts.

In that context, the postal liberalisation dossier takes a prominant place in PostEurop's regulatory activities. At the same time, other issues such as the postal exemption in aviation security, the special VAT rate on postal services and the inclusion of postal activities under the trade agreements (GATS) of the WTO Doha Round negotiations have been closely followed by the relevant EAC working groups.

EAC Working Groups
Membership

All postal operators of EU Member states participate in the activities of the EAC. In addition, EFTA (European Free Trade Association) Members – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland – are authorised to take part in the activities of the EAC working groups, and have selective voting rights.
