Data Protection and Privacy Working Group Introduction The European Commission initiated the revision of the Data Protection Directive. Commissioner Redding appears to be in favour of strengthening the rules concerning direct marketing processing and hence, affecting postal direct mail, requiring the prior consent of the receiver. Therefore, the EAC established the Data Protection Working Group in May 2011, in order to convey the postal operator’s position to the policy makers (Commission, Council and Parliament) on this issue. Objective Position paper issued on 14 July 2011 followed by lobbying actions. The long-term objective of the working group is to follow the legislative process and represent/support therein the interests of PostEurop’s members. Main Activities Home |
