"The European Postal industry is a key contributor to the European Economy"
PostEurop's Members directly employ 2 million people and link an estimated 800 million people daily. Today, Postal Services handle about 135 billion items per year including an estimated 72 billion letters and 4 billion parcels across Europe.This reflects a turnover of more than 150 billion € or about 1% of the national GDPs. The industry operates in 175,000 retail outlets and provides more than 600,000 access points to citizens across the continent. According to the Universal Postal Union, there are 640,000 postal outlets worldwide and there were 350.9 billion letters and 6.4 billion parcels circulated worldwide in 2012. Europe makes up a quarter of the network.
